2017 Ram 3500 Receives Award

Earlier this month, news broke that The Fastlane Truck (TFLtruck) has given a Gold Hitch award to the 2017 Ram 3500 in the heavy-duty segment. Powered by a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine, the Ram 3500 earned the award thanks to its superior pulling power, comfort, fuel economy and how well it handles during extreme towing conditions.

To fully assess the trucks, TFL editors took each one on a trip through the Eisenhower Pass “Ike Gauntlet” near Denver, CO. Towing a loaded gooseneck trailer, each truck had to climb elevations that reached over 11,000 feet, with an increased grade near the peak. In addition to this grueling test, trucks were also judged on an unloaded overall performance. Eligible trucks include 2017 model year trucks and any trucks from previous years that were not significantly altered for 2017. Only trucks tested before March 1, 2017 were eligible.

In a press release, Andre Smirnov, technical editor at TFLtruck, stated, “The Ram 3500 Heavy Duty was loaded with a 21,600-pound trailer for Gross Combined Weight of nearly 31,000 pounds. The Ram dually came out on top based on its confident downhill performance, consistent uphill climb and leading observed fuel mileage among the competitors.”
